What is a general ledger group?
A ledger group determines whether a ledger account is part of a balance sheet or an income statement, as well as categorises accounts on those reports.
Creating a general ledger group

Navigate to the correct window
- Navigate to Ledger / Ledger Maintenance / Ledger Groups Definition.
Create the group
- Enter the appropriate group code in the Group text box.
- Check that the following message box appears: The group does not exist - do you want to create it?
- Click the Yes button.
- Enter a name for the group in the Description text box.
The number ranges under INCOME STATEMENT and BALANCE SHEET shows you what ledger category your new ledger group will fall in. For example, if you want to create a new ledger group that should be treated as an operating income, the number should be between 000-099.
You can change the names of the ledger categories by clicking the Categories button.

Save the group
- Click the Accept button.
